Health Care

The tri-county area has an array of family physicians, orthopedic specialists, surgeons, rehabilitation, nursing, and assisted living facilities.  There are also several nonprofit organizations located throughout the region that are dedicated to creating awareness and education on health issues.

Pottstown Memorial Medical Center
With 230 licensed beds, Pottstown Memorial Medical Center (PMMC) is a modern, full-service community hospital conveniently located at the intersection of High Street and Armand Hammer Boulevard, just one mile from the Armand Hammer exit off Route 422.

PMMC offers a full range of healthcare services and a medical staff of nearly 300 talented physicians, offering more than 40 medical specialties.

Comprehensive services include a 24-hour emergency department; an outpatient surgery center adjacent to the hospital; Maternity & Women's Health Center with labor, delivery, recovery rooms, prenatal and postnatal services; Center for Orthopedics & Spine, the Center for Wound Healing, high definition endoscopy suite, medical/surgical services; critical care; cardiac health center; respiratory care; Transitional Care Unit; inpatient psychiatric care, and Renal Care Center.

As a partner of nationally acclaimed Fox Chase Cancer Center, Pottstown Memorial Regional Cancer Center offers a multi-disciplinary approach to treating cancer.  Comprehensive services include:  chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation oncology, and nutritional counseling, as well as participation in national cancer prevention trials.

Outpatient rehabilitation and occupational health are offered at PMMC's CarePlex, located at 81 Robinson Street (off of Route 100, near Wal-Mart).  CarePlex also provides work recovery, travel medicine, massage therapy, and fitness programs.  The Boyertown Medical Services Center, 23 North Walnut Street in Boyertown, also offers residents a convenient location for outpatient rehabilitation, lab drawing station, speech therapy, massage therapy, mammography, x-ray, ultrasound, CT scan, and more.

PMMC is affiliated with Pottstown Scanning and Treatment Center, which offers radiation therapy services for cancer patients, as well as open MRI and high-field MRI; Berks Family Care in Douglassville; Coventry Family Care; Coventry Pediatrics; and Limerick Family Care. In addition, the Tri-County Medical Laboratory offers four lab drawing stations located at CarePlex, Boyertown Medical Services Center, Berks Family Care, and Pottstown Memorial Medical Center.

Throughout the year PMMC offers quality, informative programs and screenings mostly conducted through Healthy Woman, a free program; and Senior Circle, a program for those 50 and older with many benefits to joining.

Miller-Keystone Blood Center
Miller-Keystone Blood Center (M-KBC) is the community blood center serving eight counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  It serves as the only provider of blood and blood products to the hospitals in Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Northampton, Southern Luzerne, Upper Bucks, Western Montgomery, and Warren (NJ) counties.

M-KBC is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, fully licensed with the FDA, the Dept. of Health in PA, NY, NJ and DE, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.  M-KBC is one of four independent blood centers in the nation to be ISO certified.

Their mission is to ensure there is a safe and stable blood supply for the 18 hospitals they serve.  A variety of vehicles are available to accommodate any size blood donor drive.  They welcome new donors and host groups.  For more information call 800.486.2566.


Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation
The Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation is a local conversion health foundation which provides funding to nonprofit organizations within a 10-mile radius of downtown Pottstown.  Since its creation in 2003, the Foundation has granted more than $16.8 million to the tri-county area focusing on health and wellness in the community.  The Foundation expects to award grants totaling about $2.7 million during the fiscal year running from July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012..
