Leadership TriCounty December Session
Our day began with breakfast in a classroom at Montgomery County Community College. After breakfast, we had a recap of November’s class, which focused on nonprofit organizations and the challenges that accompany leadership in that sphere. Once all questions and residual thoughts from November were put to bed, focus turned to The Leadership Game. During The Leadership Game, the class was broken into teams, and each team took turns answering probing questions that dive into the principles and values that encapsulate leadership. Next on the agenda was a discussion on the keys to goal setting. This activity, like many in our Leadership class, started off with a simple premise: What do you want to accomplish? The discussion became progressively more introspective: The purpose of a goal is not to achieve it, it is to become the person that can reach the goal. Then we broke for a lunch break with food provided by the Culinary Students at Pottstown High School.
After lunch, we all piled on a bus and drove over to Sealstrip, a manufacturing company in the Pottstown area. While at Sealstrip, we were privileged to meet the CEO and hear about her journey to where she is now and about how she utilizes her values and position to benefit her employees. We also toured the facility and met with the manager for the manufacturing and engineering divisions of Sealstrip. Our classmate Brett works for Sealstrip and assisted with the tour. Thanks Brett! Once the tour wrapped up, and we all had our questions answered, we hopped back on the bus to finish out the day in our classroom at Montgomery County Community College. We had a brief discussion about what we saw and learned on our field trip, and ended another successful day of leadership with a debrief.
