SHEPA LEARNING COMPANY WEEKLY POSITIVE NETWORKING® TIP
No. 989, December 21, 2022
By Gayle Hallgren and Judy Thomson
Tip: Here’s a place where you can expand your network.
Whether you own a business, work for a company or organization, are a young professional or are a solo entrepreneur, consider chambers of commerce or boards of trade. You may be thinking, “Really, isn’t that an old-fashioned way of meeting people?” or “I can’t see myself as a chamber person,” or that secret thought…"Chambers aren’t cool”.
Perhaps, think again? Here's why.
Easy way to make wide-ranging business contacts: Plus, you’ll be exposed to business and community leaders. By getting involved you build your credibility and brand recognition within your community. Sitting on committees raises your profile as a business leader.
Variety of events: The speaker events and training sessions offer timely information, geared to issues businesses are facing during this challenging economy.
Other benefits: If your business is smaller, chambers usually have insurance, extended health care, and other employee benefits that you can access under a group plan umbrella.
Chambers and boards of trade work, if you go regularly, get involved, and know how to network effectively.
Reminder: You don’t have to join to check it out. You usually can pay a non-member rate. Attend a few things before you say yes or no.
