Tip: Networking is not linear, it's explosive.
At Shepa Learning we're always encouraging you to reach out and make a new connection or restart a dormant one. The temptation might be to say, “I’m busy, why bother?” Or you do it, and nothing happens.
But these actions don’t work linearly. The magic is “most of life works exponentially. Today’s actions quietly stack beneath the surface for days, months, years—then suddenly, they appear.”
Bestselling author Sahil Bloom says “humans misjudge progress. We anchor on what’s visible. We think linearly. We expect immediate results.” Bloom’s reflection is based on something known as Amara’s Law, named for futurist Roy Amara, which states that people tend to overestimate the short-term impact of new technologies and underestimate their long-term effects. But Amara’s Law can be applied elsewhere.
For example, networking doesn’t happen linearly. You can’t do one thing and expect the immediate reaction you are looking for. Success in your network happens when you are intentional
about connecting, when you start stacking up myriad ways to connect. You meet more people more often, you reignite your role as a connector and a positive networker. You engage with your community, even take leadership roles. You are not a dead bug in your social networks. People see you there, engaging, sharing, commenting.
It is a compounding effect so stack the blocks in your favor!
